A new monthly series in which we share some of the things from the past month that made us feel excited, happy, inspired, etc., etc. (you get the drift). We don't want to spoil the list too much, but we introduce our favourite font from February, the fragrance that makes us feel ready to take on the rest of 2020, a music video about food, and the podcast that we can't stop listening to. ■ TAMALE BY DANIELA ANDRADE |
This month, we were blessed with a video for Daniela Andrade’s sultry lead single, Tamale, four months after the launch of her latest EP. In an Interview with FADER, Andrade said that the concept for Tamale’s video came from her relationship with her family and how food played into those relationships. “When I was a kid, me and my sisters would help my mom make tamales to sell to friends for some extra money to send back to our relatives in Honduras,” she said. “When I was writing 'Tamale,' a lot of this imagery came to mind; women gathered, talking and cooking amazing food. I ran with the idea of a heightened reality where our tamales are in high demand, making money off them is a breeze and we have enough to take care of our own. Heightened or not, the energy my mom and my sisters put into making them was always with a sense of empowerment, and that’s stayed with me.”

This is another font that has been giving us font envy. Designed in 2019 in Paris by Jérémy Schneider, what makes Cako unique is its very graphic shapes of letters and the typeface’s deliberate and effortless rhythm. With numerous stylistic alternatives, Cako’s fine details and spiky terminals have us gasping.

■ LIBERTINE FRAGRANCE TROUBLED SPIRITS ROLL-ON |
Handmade in small batches right in our home town of Edmonton, Libertine’s unisex Troubled Spirits roll on fragrance is inspired by the smells of charred oak barrels, dried fruit, incense, and patchouli. Vegan and cruelty-free, Libertine’s creator, Josh, hand mixes essential oils and aroma ingredients, dilutes them with a carrier and then ages them for a month to allow proper unification before the fragrance is bottled and ready to apply. As long time fans of Libertine, we love how these roll-ons translate differently on everyone’s skin and move throughout our days with us. In case you’re interested in reading more on Libertine, we visited his studio and asked him some questions.
