We all know that there are never enough hours in the day. Job priorities, housework, family, friends - let alone the current pandemic-related stresses. It can seem like there are never enough hours in the day for even the most important of them, that is, self-care. We hear about the importance of self-care all the time, it's easy to brush this one aside and even harder to put it into practice when we finally get around to it. But looking after yourself can come in many forms - often more simplistic than you think and we wanted to share with you some of our favourite everyday rituals that help us stay grounded and remind us to take a moment for ourselves.
One of the first things I do when I wake up is put on one of Headspace’s guided meditations. When working or at university my mind is racing the moment my alarm clock goes off. A meditation forces me to take a moment to escape and clear my mind right off the bat. Of course, there's a plethora of guided meditations out there to choose from paid or free, but I find that I need a little extra help and Headspace is the one I turn to. |
Whether you're commuting from A to B, or you are simply taking in some morning sun before you start your day - a good podcast is always a staple in my daily ritual. You have probably heard this many times by now, but that's because podcasts really do live up to the hype - in my opinion at least. One that I have currently been loving is Matt D’Elia is Confused. No, this is not the comedian Chris D’Elia, it’s his brother. Matt talks to people from all walks of life to help him understand some of the worlds most obscure subcultures and groups. To quote Matt, “If you ever look out at the world and think “what the hell is happening?” then this podcast is for you.” |
There’s something indulgent and personal about applying a face mask. It is one of those rare moments that satisfies the desire to treat yourself. It gives me an opportunity to paint my nails, or catch up on the lastest on Psychology Today. There's nothing like the feeling of taking the mask off to reveal soft and fresh skin below. Eluo Beauty’s range of Clay Masks are 100% natural and plant based, so I can feel good about using it, both inside and out. |
Self indulgent time for me often involves music and a little impromptu dancing. No matter what the task is at hand, some groovy tunes always makes it a little more pleasurable. Dancing is a favourite way to pick up my heart rate and let loose. One of our latest interview muses, Djuna Bel-Rowe, has recently put out this fantastic playlist that I have had on repeat and most importantly gets me on my feet. |
This one is a given. Showers are a sacred space. We all know it. There's nothing better than washing the day off with your favourite products. For me it is a reset, and something I always look forward to after a long day. Once done, your skin will love the F. Miller Body Oil. Its luxurious, skin-fortifying blend of moisture-replenishing botanicals designed to soften, smooth, tone, and instantly hydrate. |
