Founded by Marina Polo and Britt Cosgrove, SVILU is a brand that seeks to re-address the basics and fundamentals of a woman's wardrobe by offering socially sensitive and environmentally sustainable staples for modern dressing. All of SVILU's garments are mindfully sourced and locally produced in NYC, and are designed with longevity and quality in mind. And in order to maintain the integrity of their designs, environmentally sensitive practices and fabrics are utilized whenever possible.
SVILU's fabrics and trims consist largely of biodegradable natural fibers that are certified by both GOTS and OEKO-TEX. For instance, tencel, which makes up SVILU's Flounce Hem Dress, has a completely transparent supply chain deriving from the pulp of eucalyptus trees. SVILU sources their tencel from Forest Sterwardship Council (FSC) certified eucalyptus farms that do not use or employ irrigation, genetic manipulation or pesticides. The ground pulp or cellulose used for Tencel is then treated in a closed loop process in which non-toxic organic solvents are recycled with a recovery rate of 99.5%. The minuscule remaining emissions are decomposed in biological purification plants.
Since the inception of SVILU, Marina and Britt have continued to research methods in which they can reduce their environmental impact while maintaining the integrity of their designs. It is because of their innovative thinking and care for the environment that SVILU was a recipient of the 2013 CFDA/Lexus Eco Fashion Challenge Award. Shop our range of SVILU garments below!
